DESIGN NOTE 01 · HUMIDITY

Cooling is only
half the conversation.

In humid conditions, removing heat and managing moisture are separate tasks. Dew point connects the two.

What causes condensation?

Condensation can form when a surface is at or below the dew point of the surrounding air. A room can be at a comfortable air temperature while an exposed chilled surface is too cold for the current humidity.

Radiant cooling principally addresses the sensible heat load. Dehumidification must handle the latent load from occupants, ventilation, infiltration and activities such as cooking and bathing. The design should include how these systems respond together.

EXPLORE THE PRINCIPLE

Same temperature.
Different dew point.

Move the sliders to see how humidity changes the approximate dew point.

Approximate dew point17.6°C

Illustrative Magnus-formula calculation (a = 17.62, b = 243.12°C). This is not a system setting, sizing tool or safety controller. Actual setpoints require engineering margins, sensor accuracy and project-specific control design.

What the project team needs to establish

What a good demonstration should show

Agree on test conditions and records for room temperature, relative humidity, dew-point response and operating modes. Demonstrate the defined response to elevated humidity and relevant faults, and document how the system recovers. A screenshot of a thermostat alone does not prove whole-system performance.

Begin with the right building

Radiant cooling deserves careful assessment in Hong Kong, Singapore and coastal UAE locations. High humidity does not rule it out automatically, but feasibility depends on the building, the moisture strategy and a capable local team. Completed interiors or uncontrolled air leakage can make other cooling approaches more practical.
